Congratulations to LAIS Vice-Director Juan Cobo for winning the ‘Excellence in Graduate and Undergraduate Mentorship’ award at the LAIS annual picnic in May of 2019. This prize is awarded annually and chosen by both Undergraduate and Graduate students in the LAIS program. Professor Cobo is currently away on a yearlong fellowship at the John Carter Brown Library in Rhode Island, but is still an MA advisor to LAIS graduate students Liz Marchante, and Sarah Zamir. In addition to his work as a historian, Professor Cobo is the co-founder of Neogranadina, a non-profit foundation devoted to digitizing the holdings of endangered archives and libraries in Colombia, and providing the materials online for free, and developing digital humanities projects in the region. Congratulations Professor Cobo!
